A Hoosier gets credit for a holiday tradition in Washington.  President Benjamin Harrison started the tradition of the White House Christmas tree.  That year — in 1889 — they lit the tree with candles. 

White House historians credit Mrs. Grover Cleveland for the first “technology savvy” tree.  They used electric lights instead of candles in 1895.
