Selections the “real” deal
I had the opportunity to take part in a “mock” selection for the NCAA Basketball Tournament courtesy of the NCAA. What an experience!….I learned so much on how the committee finds the best 65 teams. You hear all the myths and stories about how the committee looks for certain match-ups…no more than 7 teams from a major conference…all of that is NOT true. As a committee member, you don’t have time to even think about those type of scenarios. You’re just looking for the best teams that should make the tournament. You hear so much about the RPI or conference record yes that plays a role…but it’s not everything. Case in point…remember a few years back Indiana was 10-6 in the Big 10 and Iowa went 6-10 and the Hawkeyes were in and IU was out! It basically comes down to this…Who you PLAY, who you BEAT, and WHERE you beat them. Good news for Butler, Indiana, Notre Dame, and Purdue…because it appears these teams have done pretty well so far in the “eyes” of the committee.
