New Questions?
It took awhile for the Democrats’ debate tonight to get going. It reminded me of the old line: Everything’s been said. But not everyone has said it yet. The questions were on topics both candidates have already addressed, repeatedly.
They spent a good deal of time talking about Senator Obama’s former pastor, Reverend Wright. Obama acknowledged the pastor’s remarks as extremely offensive.
At one point, Obama was asked: what will you do, if Wright’s sermons are played over and over again? Senator Obama said he’s confident the American people would not be distracted, again, by those comments. I wonder whether a better question — at least a new spin — might have been: how does he explain the congregation’s cheering for the statements Obama says he found offensive?
