Help the Salvation Army
WISH-TV is getting ready to launch the annual WISH Tree campaign to help the Salvation Army. And, your support has never been more important than it is this year.
Several members of the Salvation Army told me today: political campaigns typically absorb money that might be donated in non-election years. Remember, this year’s presidential election was the most expensive in history. So, combine that fact with the economic turmoil and we see a tough year for contributions to the Red Kettle drive. (I’m especially interested because, once again, I am proud to be the honorary chairman of the Salvation Army’s Tree of Lights campaign.)
This is not a year to set a higher fundraising goal. So, the target for 2008 is the same as it was in 2007 – $2.75 million. This year is a time for creativity in the hope that enough people realize supporting the Salvation Army need not be a tremendous burden.
Consider this: if 100,000 people give just $27.50, the Salvation Army will meet its goal. Remember, the Census Bureau says more than 865,000 people live in Marion County. So, it’s possible.
