Moving Out
This could be taken as another sign of a struggling economy. Except it represents a trend we’ve followed for years.
United Van Lines released its latest report on American “migration”. The company tracks the comings and goings of its customers to offer an idea of which regions are gaining population and which are losing it.
Indiana is “a high-outbound state, continuing a 15 year trend.” 57% of United’s business in Indiana was taking people somewhere else.
Michigan is #1 among the high-outbounds. United says 67% of its shipments there are leaving the state. That’s also part of a trend. United says its data “over the past 32 years shows an overall outbound trend for the Great Lakes region.”
The District of Columbia offers the greatest number of inbound shipments. It’s followed by Nevada, North Carolina, Alabama, and Wyoming.
