Just looked at some information provided by the SPC on the weather environment here.  Right now, we have a bit of a “lid” in the atmosphere that is somewhat limiting rain and storm development here in central Indiana.  However, over the past several hours, that lid has weakened, and the energy needed for thunderstorm development continues to grow.

I have highlighted on the SPC chart the area where this change is taking place.  Bottom line is that while the storms in Illinois are weakening, some new storms will probably pop-up on top of us this afternoon.
