Carlos May for Congress

October 19th, 2009 at 4:22 pm by Jim Shella under Jim Shella's Political Blog

Republican Carlos May kicked off his campaign in the 7th District today (now represented by Democrat André Carson,) a long shot for any Republican.  May has a good chance to be the GOP nominee, however, and he’s taking an interesting approach.

May is a Mexican-American who lists his heritage at the top of his news release.  He held his announcement on West Washington street to show off his Hispanic support.  Hispanic voters make up a relatively small number of voters in the 7th but many of them are likely to vote Democratic unless they have a good reason to vote for a Republican.  He may provide it.

Tellingly, there were NO African-Americans amongst the 15-or-so supporters present…

Well, there should have been. His stance is not simply to represent one race, so I’m not sure what you’re trying to insinuate by saying there were no African Americans. He brings COMMON SENSE and a no-b.s. approach to the table as no other representatives have done. This crosses the Dem/Rep line.

He is not trying to only target the Latinos, so even if this is a relatively small vote, that’s okay. He bring his Latino heritage in as a factor simply to show that he is versatile, well-rounded and can relate to more than just one specific group of people.

He can and WILL prove it. Indianapolis supports you, Carlos.

Actually there were. Check you video to the left of the crowd. Or were you making assumptions based on the degree of pigmentation in the crowd of 30 or so’s skin? Thanks for coming out though! Always great to see you Wilson!

You failed to mention that Dr. Marvin Scott is also a Rebublican Candidate in the 7th District Race.
