Beware of Mislabeled Endorsements

April 29th, 2010 at 6:06 pm by under Jim Shella's Political Blog

Jackie Walorski, a GOP candidate in the 2nd Congressional District issued a news release today boasting of an endorsement by the National Rifle Association.  This afternoon a second release from the NRA said it’s not true.

From the NRA release:  “The rating mentioned in Jackie Walorski’s recent press release was given to her in 2008, when she was running for state representative. It does not apply to this congressional race. The quotes in Ms. Walorski’s release were pulled from a thank-you letter to Ms. Walorski from the NRA upon her retirement as a state representative. This letter had nothing to do with the IN – 2 race.”

Woops.

so that’s why they call her “Wacky Jackie” !

  2. Jim Shella says:

The Walorski campaign now says it was playing up the old endorsement but its release implied there was a new one.

  3. Duke says:

Seems as if Ms. Walorski is a bit concerned about the backing of the NRA now and decided to find some material from yesteryear to cut and paste into today.

  4. Randy Walter says:

I think I saw another somewhat shady endorsement come from her campaign a couple weeks ago from the local tea party group. got an e-mail from her campaign that said the group endorsed her, but in fact it was just the leaders. the membership did not.

  5. Duke says:

Seems to be at the point of the campaign where Ms. Walorski is willing to play a “little loose” with the facts in order to gain a SUPPOSED advantage. Seems to me Washington already has enough of these type of individuals.Let’s send someone to Washington that is a real person, has some business sense and just wants to do WHAT’S RIGHT, not promote their own personal agenda. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention the name?, Mr. Jack Jordan !!!

That’s odd, I didn’t see anywhere that the Walorski campaign materials even said the NRA endorsed her, and also that the NRA’s letter said it could be used for campaign purposes… weird.

Also the St. Joseph Co. TEA Party had this to say http://www.meetup.com/StJoeCountyTeaParty/calendar/13255711/ :

    Also Hi all,

After polling our Steering committee and based on the 64% of votes for Jackie in a straw poll and only 2 votes total for Jack Jordan, I have decided to join the three other Tea Party and Tax payer groups in endorsing Jackie Walorski.
I have been in touch with leadership in many groups through out northern Indiana and the vast majority are supporting Jackie. A recent poll in a meeting of over 200 Tea Party/912 people, Jack Jordan only had one vote. He has recently sited Tea Party support because a Logansport Group has endorsed him. It is imperative that the public know the overwhelming support in the movement Stands with Jackie.

If you can make it to this last minute event I would love to see you in Mishawaka
