State Senate Approves “Charlie’s Law”

The state Senate just voted in favor of an amendment that would permit the Secretary of State’s office to remain in GOP hands if a Democratic challenge to Charlie White’s candidacy is successful.

Only one Republican voted against the proposal by Sen. Mike Young (R-Indianapolis.)  It was labeled “ridiculous” by Sen. Greg Taylor (D-Indianapolis.)  It would give the governor the ability to appoint a replacement if White is removed from office by the State Recount Commission.  Under current law, the second place candidate would assume office.  That’s Democrat Vop Osili.

Indiana Democratic Chairman Dan Parker says he may file suit if the amendment becomes law.
