Daniels closes door to VP
Mitch Daniels has closed the door to becoming Mitt Romney’s running mate.
The governor kept that door open after he said “no” to a run for President not quite a year ago. But it’s clear he now wants the speculation to end.
Daniels appeared in a national cable TV interview yesterday where he said that he wants to keep his commitment to Indiana voters to serve a full eight years,a comment that came less than a week after he belatedly endorsed Mitt Romney.
Today the governor wanted to make it clear that there is no wiggle room in his position. “I don’t wanna do it,” he said in response to my question. “I don’t expect it to happen, don’t look for it. And, ah, I’m not really trying to express any great nuance or difference, Jim, it’s just, you know, that I decided that national office was not something that I was interested in doing.”
Daniels appears more focused on Indiana politics at the moment. He appears in a new TV ad endorsing Senator Richard Lugar.
