Daniels objects to Purdue renovationsSeptember 4th, 2012 at 5:42 pm by Jim Shella under Jim Shella's Political Blog
Mitch Daniels is unhappy about some of the preparations being made as he gets ready to become the President of Purdue University.
Purdue spent $380,000 to make improvements in the President’s suite, including the office Daniels will occupy in Hovde Hall, with upgrades in computer systems and the addition of video conferencing equipment, among other things. Daniels wants everybody to know that he doesn’t approve.
He issued a statement through the governor’s office today that says, in part: “I knew nothing about it and was no part of the decision to perform this work. If I had been asked in advance, I would have requested that the work not be done.”
Daniels says he would have vetoed the project if he had the opportunity. He said any work that is not yet completed should be canceled. Purdue officials say the work was done now because the office is vacant for six months while the governor fills out his term at the Statehouse.
