John Gregg swings, misses

John Gregg’s new ad accuses Mike Pence of a crime he didn’t commit.  Gregg stands under an umbrella in the TV spot and says, “Mike Pence wants to drain the rainy day fund.”

Supporting documentation for the ad references a story in the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette in which Pence says, “My inclination would be to spend past our reserves.”  I’m not sure what that means but the article also says that Pence “believes that a 10 percent reserve is a good minimum target.”  10 percent has long been considered the logical standard in Statehouse money circles.  Plus, Gregg won’t commit to a reserve target.

I like the continued on-camera, folksy approach in Gregg’s ads and enjoy the cameo of his sons holding the hose above his umbrella, but he needs to make a stronger case to get elected.

He doesn’t have a stronger case. I keep waiting for him to state his goals if he were elected but he seems content to criticize Pence. His ads are a fail with the majority of Hoosiers and soon he will be consigned to the dustbin of failed politicians. Maybe he should go back to school and get his PhD. That worked so well for Jill Long Thompson. Gregg and Thompson have a lot in common. No new or innovative ideas, just attack ads. Apparently, the Democrats realize they are running a losing campaign and Gregg is the designated sacrificial lamb for this election.
