Monumental Marathon lane restrictions for November 3, 2012

On Saturday, Nov. 3, the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K will start and finish Downtown. The races start on Washington Street near Missouri Street at 8 a.m. with setup beginning at 6 a.m. The route goes near Lucas Oil Stadium, around Monument Circle and continues north to 66th Street before returning Downtown on Meridian Street to finish at the Statehouse. More than 10,000 runners and wheelchair athletes are expected to participate.

It will not be possible for vehicles to cross the route while runners are on the street in the area. All traffic should avoid the race course area during the times noted. West Street will remain open for both northbound and southbound traffic throughout the event with some short closures for 5K participants to cross the street. Metered parking along the route will be restricted. Street closures will impact on-time performance for scheduled bus service, so IndyGo reminds passengers that selecting an earlier scheduled bus trip is advisable. Downtown streets along the route in the area south of Market Street will be closed or restricted approximately 8 – 9 a.m. due to this event. Athletes should clear the area and all streets will be open to traffic south of Market Street in the SouthWest and SouthEast quadrants by 9 a.m. Streets in the NorthEast Quadrant of Downtown will be clear of athletes by 9:30 a.m.

Downtown streets on the route in the NorthWest Quadrant will be closed or restricted approximately 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. due to this event. The event will end by 2:30 p.m. with all streets open by 3 p.m.

Restrictions or closures of Downtown streets between 8 and 9:30 a.m. near the start:

• Washington Street from West to Meridian streets (closed 6 – 9 a.m.)
• Meridian Street from Washington to South streets
• South Street from Meridian Street to Capitol Avenue
• Capitol Avenue from South to McCarty streets
• McCarty Street from Capitol Avenue to Delaware Street
• Delaware Street from McCarty to South streets (three west side lanes)
• South Street from Delaware to New Jersey streets (westbound lanes)
• New Jersey Street from South Street to Virginia Avenue
• Virginia Avenue from New Jersey to Delaware streets
• Delaware Street from Maryland to Market streets
• Market Street from Delaware Street to Monument Circle
• NorthEast Quadrant of Monument Circle
• Meridian Street from Market to New York streets (northbound lanes)
• New York Street between Meridian and Alabama streets (two lanes)
• Alabama Street between New York and Michigan streets (two lanes)
• Michigan Street between Alabama Street and Massachusetts Avenue (two lanes)
• Massachusetts Avenue from Michigan Street to 10th Street
• 10th Street between Bellefontaine Street and Central Avenue (eastbound lanes)
• Central Avenue between 10th and 16th streets (two lanes)
• 16th Street between Central Avenue and Pennsylvania Street (westbound lanes)
• Pennsylvania Street between 16th Street and Fall Creek Parkway (two lanes)

Restrictions or closures of Downtown streets between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. near the finish:

• Meridian Street from 30th to New York streets
• New York Street between Meridian and West streets
• West Street between Washington to New York streets (two northbound lanes)
• Robert D. Orr Plaza between West Street and Senate Avenue
