Weekend Weather Outlook: Nice Saturday, Icy Sunday

January 25th, 2013 at 5:07 pm by under Weather

THIS EVENING:  Temperatures will stay fairly steady this evening.  Clouds will linger for most of the evening. There could be some Lake Effect snow showers in extreme northern and northeastern parts of our area.

OVERNIGHT:  Colder air will arrive late tonight and drop lows into the low to mid teens.  The wind will push wind chill values close to zero.

SATURDAY:  It will be the nicer day of the weekend by far.  We will see a decent amount of sunshine early, then clouds will mix in by the afternoon and evening.  Highs will reach the mid 20s.

SUNDAY:  The leading edge of warmer air will overrun colder air at the ground.  Add moisture, and we will see a wintry mix of mainly freezing rain and sleet develop by Sunday afternoon and Sunday night.  Models indicate the possibility of .25″ of ice accumulation in places, so this will be an event to track carefully and we will do so throughout the weekend!

8-DAY FORECAST:  After the weekend, it will really warm-up for the first part of the week.  Highs will reach the upper 40s on Monday with scattered rain.  More substantial rain and maybe even some rumbles of thunder are possible late Tuesday into early Wednesday.  Colder air will arrive late Wednesday and we will see a brief shot of bitter cold air late next week.
