GOP budget with no tax cut wins preliminary approvalFebruary 18th, 2013 at 11:56 am by Jim Shella under Jim Shella's Political Blog
A committee in the General Assembly gave its approval this morning to the House GOP budget that eliminates the income tax cut sought by Governor Mike Pence.
The vote in the House Ways and Means committee was 18-to-4 with 2 Democrats joining the Republicans who support the bill. It spends more on schools than the Pence budget but some school district will still see cuts. “No matter what they say, how they frame it, the dollars are not there,” said Rep. Greg Porter (D-Indianapolis,) “and it hurts various school corporations, particularly minority school corporations.”
“I do know people are disappointed,” said Committee Chairman Rep. Tim Brown (R-Crawfordsville.) “Not everyone can have everything they needed, or wanted, or desired.”
The committee will consider amendments to the budget tomorrow.
