Traffic Shifting on U.S. 31 Thursday, Friday Nights
WESTFIELD, Ind. – Contractors for The New U.S. 31 Hamilton County highway upgrade plan to shift traffic lanes to a section of new pavement Thursday and Friday nights.
Beginning Thursday at 9 p.m., southbound lanes on U.S. 31 will be shifted to new pavement on the west side of the highway between 169th Street and 156th Street. A median crossover north of 156th Street will direct southbound traffic to share the northbound side of the highway until 146th Street.
On Friday at 9 p.m., northbound lanes on U.S. 31 will be shifted to the new pavement on the west side of the highway. The same median crossover north of 156th Street will direct northbound traffic to share the southbound side of the highway until 169th Street.
The traffic change will require alternating single-lane restrictions both nights as lane markings are modified to accommodate the shifts. All lane restrictions are expected to end by 6 a.m., and both directions of traffic are expected to be shifted by Saturday morning.
Shifting traffic to the new pavement between 156th and 169th streets allows Rieth-Riley Construction, the state’s contractor for the $58 million project, to continue upgrading the northbound section of the highway to freeway standards.
