Pence backs away from support of government shutownOctober 4th, 2013 at 11:10 am by Jim Shella under Jim Shella's Political Blog
Mike Pence now says that he doesn’t support the federal government shutdown.
The governor clarified his position before leading a charity motorcycle ride this morning. On Tuesday Pence suggested that the shutdown is worthwhile if it leads to a delay or defeat of Obamacare.
He told me that, while he still opposes Obamacare, he believes the President and Congress should find a compromise to get government workers back on the job.
“I probably could have been more clear in my statement,” he said. “I never said that a government shutdown was worthwhile and like every Hoosier I’m frustrated with the impasse that’s been reached in Washington, DC.”
Pence advocated a government shutdown as a member of Congress in 2011. He says elimination of the medical device tax could solve the current stalemate.
