Did Rokita’s bad week top Stutzman’s bad week?October 7th, 2013 at 3:20 pm by Jim Shella under Jim Shella's Political Blog
Two Indiana Congressmen, Todd Rokita and Marlin Stutzman, are getting a lot of attention during this government shutdown.
On the Washington Post website they name one political figure who had the worst week in Washington. It was Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-3rd District.) “For giving the Democrats bulletin board material on the government shutdown you had the worst week in Washington,” said Chris Cillizza of the Post. “Congrats! Or something.”
When asked on Indiana Week in Review who had a worse week, Todd Rokita or Marlin Stutzman, analyst John Ketzenberger said, “Wow. They were neck and neck.”
Rokita’s problems started when he labeled Obamacare as “insidious” in a cable TV interview. It led to ridicule by John Stewart on the Daily Show, who said, “Bravo. Not just one of the most insidious laws created by America, which has Jim Crow and slavery on its resume of laws but by man, putting Obamacare up with the Nuremburg laws.”
That was mild compared to Internet attacks that followed another remark, made by Rokita (R-4th District) in a CNN interview when he addressed the interviewer, Carol Costello. “Carol, you’re beautiful,” he said, “but you have to be honest as well.”
He was called sexist and worst.
Back on Indiana Week in Review Democrat Ann DeLaney targeted him. When asked if she was more troubled about Rokia than Stutzman, she said, “Both of them are actually ignorant.”
Rokita, however, is standing by what he said. His website spells out four reasons why he believes Obamacare is insidious.
On Sunday, Todd Rokita appeared in a live interview on Fox News and his performance was solid. Fox News, however, identified him incorrectly as a Congressman from Illinois.
It was not a good week.
