Cold air has arrived!October 21st, 2013 at 6:23 pm by Robb Ellis under Weather
Despite temperatures making it into the 60s this afternoon, the cold air has pushed in and numbers are dropping quickly. Lows tonight are expected near freezing and cold air stays around through the rest of the week. Several clipper systems will swing through this week, providing multiple chances for a wintry mix.
Clouds and drizzle exit through the evening with clear skies taking over. West and northwest winds will help to keep the cold air flowing in. Lows tonight near 33 with a Frost Advisory in place through early morning.
After a frigid start, sunshine for most of the day will be helping to combat the cold air. Unfortunately, temperatures won’t be able to recover, with highs in the low to mid 50s. Clouds build in the late afternoon with showers overtaking central Indiana by evening. A few snowflakes may mix in late overnight, especially in northern Indiana. Lows near 30.
A very light wintry mix may be possible in the early morning, but some sunshine will break in by midday. Highs will stay in the mid 40s with cold northwest winds. Lows will again drop to near or just below freezing.
Another clipper system arrives early Thursday morning, but this one looks to have even less moisture than Wednesday’s system. Highs will be near 46, with lows dropping into the 20s.
Cold air remains in place, but some more moderate temperatures will arrive. Highs will return to the 50s with another chance of rain on Saturday.
