Halloween storm – What can you expect?October 30th, 2013 at 6:51 pm by Robb Ellis under Weather
Want to know exactly what to expect with this Halloween storm? Well, I”m going to break down what to expect, and when to expect the heaviest rain, strongest winds and threat for severe weather.
Temperatures will remain mild overnight, potentially even warming up through daybreak. Rain chances don’t look as high as tomorrow, but a few showers and even an isolated thunderstorm could be possible. Lows in the low 60s. Winds will begin to pick up by daybreak.
Expect light showers to overspread the area through the morning, and gradually pick up in intensity through midday. Temperatures will stay in the 60s for most of the day. Although a few thunderstorms could be possible, the better chance is later in the day.
Winds will be brisk for most of the morning, with southwest winds at 15 to 25 mph. Some gusts could be higher, approaching 35 mph.
More rain is expected, and is likely to be heavy at times, especially during the afternoon and early evening. Winds will continue to gust to 30+ mph, with as much as an inch of rain falling. Thunderstorms could be possible during this time, with some containing damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.
The better chance for storms is expected in the evening. Heavy rain will continue, but is likely to be embedded within individual storms. A line of storms may move across central Indiana by late evening, bringing the highest threat for gusty winds. There is also a minor tornado threat with these thunderstorms. Temperatures will continue to be mild, as gusty southwest winds maintain until the cold front passes.
As the cold front passes, winds will shift to northwest, and temperatures are expected to drop. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 40s.
A much quieter day. It will also be a much cooler day. Clouds will linger from the Halloween system, but some sunshine should be able to break through. Highs in the low 60s, with cooler temperatures for late Trick-Or-Treating. Temperatures will be in the 50s for the evening under partly cloudy skies and a stiff breeze.
Temperatures return to the 50s for highs, with overnight lows going back into the low 30s. There is a chance of a few sprinkles on Saturday, but sunshine is expected for Sunday.
Temperatures return to the 60s as another system very similar to the Halloween storm approaches.
