Pence announces school safety grantsNovember 1st, 2013 at 1:29 pm by Jim Shella under Jim Shella's Political Blog
The state of Indiana has distributed grants totaling $9 million to improve school safety.
Governor Mike Pence made that announcement Friday at Cedar Elementary School in Avon where a grant paid for automated door locks. 241 schools have taken advantage of the new program. Grants are as big as $50,000 for each school.
“Our administration and all of those involved in this issue from the Department of Education and all across this state are encouraging school corporations all over the state to research the secured school safety grant,” said Pence, “and strongly consider applying for it in the next 12 months.”
“We urge you to move forward,” he went on to say, “and we’re anxious to partner with every school in the state of Indiana.”
The money can be used to pay school resource officers, buy equipment, or to make a threat assessment.
