Pence claims economic development recordDecember 18th, 2013 at 11:58 am by Jim Shella under Jim Shella's Political Blog
Governor Mike Pence announced economic development deals Wednesday that could lead to more than a thousand new jobs in Indiana. He claims that brings the 2013 total to more than 21,000 new jobs.
Pence appeared with the leaders of 8 companies who will receive state incentives.
They include Bluebridge Digital, a new Fishers company that makes mobile apps and plans to hire 200 people in the next 8 years.
“With all the local support and the state support and pro-business, or friendly, climate,” said founder Santiago Jaramillo, “it just made a lot of sense to keep the business here and keep investing here.”
“And the total number of projects, or deals as we call them in the trade, is 261 for the year 2013,” said Pence. “That is a new record for the state of Indiana in total deals.”
And while the governor claims economic development success, House Minority Leader Scott Pelath said more must be done to create better jobs and raise the per capita income in Indiana. It currently trails the national average.
