Mass Transit rally at the StatehouseJanuary 23rd, 2014 at 11:49 am by Jim Shella under Jim Shella's Political Blog
Supporters of a bigger, better mass transit system in Central Indiana rallied at the Statehouse Thursday.
The Indiana Citizens Alliance for Transit is the second group to gather this week to encourage lawmakers to pass a transit bill.
That bill calls for county referendums to increase taxes for better bus service.
Among those speaking out is Sarah Meyer, who is blind. “I work with people with disabilities every day,” she said, “and among the greatest challenges our consumers face is a lack of access to safe, affordable, and reliable transportation. This is something we’re working to change.”
A summer study committee recommended passage of the transit bill but no votes have been taken in the General Assembly so far this year.
