The Mess Is Moving Into Indianapolis

February 17th, 2014 at 1:27 pm by under Weather

Temperatures are below freezing at the surface, but there is warmer air cutting into the system aloft.  This means a mix of precipitation for central Indiana.  Freezing rain is falling in Terre Haute and there are reports of “icing” in the city.  The freezing rain and sleet are moving into Indianapolis now.  Snow is falling in Crawfordsville and Kokomo.   Be aware that thundersnow is possible and any thunderstorms may produce a heavy sleet/freezing rain mix.  Road conditions will deteriorate quickly once things pick up.  With the snow we could see snowfall rates of 1″ per hour in northern Indiana.
