Republican State Senator Mike Delph of Carmel still won’t react publicly to the sanctions placed on him by GOP leadership.
However, Democrats are speaking up. They’re having a little fun with it and that’s because, as part of his punishment for violating GOP protocol, Mike Delph has been assigned a new seat on the Senate floor, and that meant a Democrat had to move as well.
Democrat Karen Tallian and she says she doesn’t like it.
“I want my back row seat and I know one way to get it back,” she said. “Make sure Mike Delph is not re-elected next year.”
Senator Delph was in that new seat early Monday afternoon.
He intentionally made sure that he was the first Senator on the floor in an effort to send the message that he accepts the consequences of his actions and is ready to move on.
Delph also lost a leadership position and staff assistance because he tweeted the outcome of a private caucus debate.
Senator Mark Stoops who now sits next to Delph.
“I mean, as far as I think the Republican caucus is concerned that may be the worst possible outcome for discipline,” said Stoops, “if you’re actually seated next to the back bench Democrats.”
Delph is a conservative and Stoops is a liberal.
Senator Delph again declined an on camera interview. He says he will speak out later this week.
However, he does contend that he didn’t do anything wrong.
