It was the warmest day so far of 2014 with highs in the upper 60s and 70s for most spots in central Indiana. It was also the warmest day since October 14, 2013.
Get ready for a roller coaster ride of temperatures. Temperatures will swing dramatically from near 70 on Tuesday to snow and 20s on Wednesday.
Temperatures will remain very mild for most of the evening, but once the temps start dropping, they’ll drop quickly. Expect partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies.
Rain will move in by midnight, and could be heavy at times. Some thunder may be possible. Temperatures will continue to drop overnight. Temperatures will likely be in the 40s by midnight and continue dropping into the 30s by morning.
Rain will transition to snow just before daybreak in areas northwest of Indy and by 9AM for southeastern metro Indianapolis. Snow may be heavy at times and will likely accumulate as the morning progresses. 1 to 3″ of accumulation is expected for the metro area, with heavier amounts to the north. Temperatures will continue to drop as strong northwest winds usher in even colder air.
Snow will wrap up by midday to early afternoon, but a few flurries could continue through the evening. Temperatures will stay in the 20s for most of the afternoon with strong winds.
Temperatures will drop into the single digits and low 10s by Thursday morning. Winds will let up slightly, but should still remain brisk overnight.
A chilly start but sunshine will warm temperatures into the low to mid 30s. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. Lows in the mid 20s.
Friday through the weekend:
Temperatures return to the 50s but a brief weak system arrives on Saturday and could bring some light rain or wintry mix. Lows will likely stay in the 30s with temperatures dropping slightly by Sunday.
