The Ethics Committee in the Indiana House of Representatives cleared Eric Turner Wednesday afternoon.

The vote was unanimous in a meeting that last just a few minutes.

A six-page report found that Turner, a Cicero Republican, broke no rules when he lobbied against a bill that would hurt his family nursing home business during a private GOP caucus in March.

However, the report also indicates that Turner violated the spirit of the rules when it comes to disclosing investments and it concluded that disclosure requirements are too lax.

“We’re expected to go beyond that,” said Rep. Clyde Kersey (D-Terre Haute) with regard to meeting the rules, “and so we hope to in the future revise some of our House rules.”

“And we want to make sure that in conjunction with that,” said Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon,) “that we make the proper disclosures to keep the public trust.”

Rep. Turner did not attend the hearing but issued a statement saying that he is appreciative of the decision and supports a review of House rules.
