Nebraska Twin TornadoesJune 16th, 2014 at 8:34 pm by Pamela Gardner under Weather
We showed video of the twin tornadoes at 5 and 6pm on WISH-TV. Here are some radar images from when the tornadoes formed in Nebraska on Forecast 8 StormTracker.
Here is the rotation track put together:
The Nebraska tornadoes damaged homes and businesses in Pilger, Nebraska. These twin tornadoes have another terminology. A parent tornado first develops, then a “satellite” tornado develops completely separate from the parent tornado. (This is not to be confused with the muli-vortex tornado term). The tornadoes stay separated and usually the satellite tornado rotates around the larger tornado in the same mesocyclone. This is rare and scientists aren’t sure how this happens. This event tonight is even more rare with how large, violent, and long-lived BOTH tornadoes were.
