New I-465 Ramp to I-65 Opening at South Side Interchange
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plans to shift traffic Friday night onto a new ramp at the south side Interstate 465 and 65 interchange.

The eastbound I-465 ramp to southbound I-65 was rebuilt on a new alignment to allow room for construction of a new two-lane flyover ramp from westbound I-465 to southbound I-65. Shifting traffic to the new ramp will allow crews to begin removal of the previous ramp and continue construction of the new flyover bridge.

Motorists should expect right lane restrictions on eastbound I-465 and southbound I-65 near the south side interchange beginning Friday at 9 p.m. until Saturday at 6 a.m. Crews will be working overnight to modify pavement markings and move traffic to the new ramp. This work is weather dependent and will be postponed in the event of inclement weather.

Always comply with work zone speed limits, maintain safe distances from other vehicles and avoid all distractions to improve safety for both highway workers and motorists. INDOT partners with the Indiana State Police to provide increased work zones patrols and promote public safety.

Walsh Construction Company, INDOT’s contractor for the $40 million Operation Indy Commute project, is constructing auxiliary lanes along I-65 to connect between the I-465 and Southport Road interchange ramps. Auxiliary lanes are also being built on I-465 between I-65 and Emerson Avenue. A new two-lane flyover ramp from westbound I-465 to southbound I-65 is will replace the existing single-lane loop ramp. Sherman Drive remains closed until approximately Sept. 1 as the bridge over I-465 is reconstructed and lengthened to accommodate widening I-465 below.
