2 Hurricanes Heading Towards HawaiiAugust 6th, 2014 at 6:08 am by Pamela Gardner under Weather
There are 2 hurricanes in the Pacific that are heading towards the Hawaiian islands.
The first hurricane is named Iselle and is currently a category 2 with sustained winds of 100 mph, gusts of 120 mph. It is moving west northwest at 13 mph. As it moves over Hawaii Thursday evening, we expect it to diminish to a tropical storm with 65 mph winds.
The second hurricane (just upgraded this morning) is Julio and is now a category 1. Sustained winds are 75 mph with gusts up to 90 mph, moving west northwest at 17 mph. We expect it to impact Hawaii by Sunday night, but there is still uncertainty on the exact track and on the exact strength. Right now, the models hint at an indirect hit as the storm passes to the north as a tropical storm.
