Hawaii Hurricane ImpactsAugust 7th, 2014 at 6:08 am by Pamela Gardner under Weather
Two hurricanes will impact the Hawaiian islands in the next few days.
The first will be Iselle which is a category 1 hurricane. Current winds are 90 mph with gusts up to 115 mph. The big island will be hit first with 80 mph winds (category 1) this evening. Once the storm reaches Honolulu, it will weaken a bit to a Tropical Storm with 60 mph winds on Friday evening. Very heavy rain is expected: 4-7″ of rain with isolated places getting 10″ of rain.
Julio (the second) is a category 2 hurricane with 100 mph winds and gust up to 120 mph. This will move on a similar west, northwest track. Once it gets close enough to the islands on Saturday evening, it will weaken to a Tropical Storm with winds of 70 mph. The track does turn a little bit more to the north, so the eyewall doesn’t look to hit the islands directly.
