Indiana college football landscape
A few weeks into the college football season and the major Indiana schools are a combined 6-0. Lets assess….
Notre Dame still looks awful and should have lost their opener to a terrible San Diego State team. A bad fumble call on an Aztec back crossing the goal line was the difference. How unusual is it that this weekend’s game with a bad Michigan team is getting little to no attention? The Irish have a schedule that could potentially find five or six wins, but the bloom is coming off the Charlie Weis rose in a hurry.
Purdue got off to a slow start in their opener but will face a very good Oregon team at Ross-Ade that should show their true colors. Curtis Painter seems to struggle in big games — 0-7 against ranked teams. Has he gotten past the demons? Doubtful.
IU has been impressive, thanks to solid play on both sides of the ball. Good to see the Hoosier defense playing well, but a big test comes next week against Ball State.
As for the Ball State Cardinals, wow, possibly the best of the bunch. If they can beat IU in Bloomington, Brady Hoke’s team could become a media darling and one of those mid-major teams to watch.
