It’s been so exciting working at WISH-TV on Election Day. The AP has declared Barack Obama as the next president of the United States. The staff here has worked incredibly hard to bring the best coverage not only locally but nationally. It’s been great to be a part of it all.

I’ve worked in several markets, but WISH-TV has been the most exciting place to work on Election Day. You can just feel the energy in the newsroom. Everyone wants to do a great job and it shows. It’s great to be a part of a team that strives for excellence.

She told supporters are monitoring the national news networks. Everytime one of the networks projects Obama a winner in a certain state you hear a very loud cheer and clapping. She said more and more people are arriving. She said Evan Bayh has been there for a while. However, Andre Carson has not arrived. He’s expected to be there by 9:30 p.m.

24-Hour News 8 reporter Leslie Olsen is at the downtown Marriott Hotel with the Democrat Party.
She told me it’s been pretty quiet there until recently when Obama was called in Pennsylvania and Illinois. She said there is somberness about Jill Long Thompson apparently losing by a lot. There are two big screens with MSNBC and CNN plus smaller screens that have local stations.
Leslie said there aren’t as many supporters there as she would have imagined, but supporters may still be coming.

Hoosiers that have voted in specific precincts for years encountered one to two hour waits to vote at the polls today.
The Indiana Secretary of State’s Office says the peak voting hours are expected to be between 3 and 6 p.m.
24-Hour News 8 reporter Gene Rodriguez arrived at Bluff Creek Christian Church in Johnson County at 3:30 p.m. She was told by a poll worker the wait is approximately one and a half hours to vote.
There were only five voting machines and when poll workers asked for more machines they received just one more. So, there are six voting machines available to voters right now.
Gene Rodriguez will have live reports with voters tonight on News 8 at 5 and 6 p.m.
