What a race the IndyCar drivers put on Sunday in Toronto. I was glued to my TV watching. I definitely think street courses are where it is at. There aren’t too many places where fans would boo Helio Castroneves and cheer Paul Tracy. Helio and PT got tangled up and crashed out of the race with about 18 laps left.
It was a fun race to watch with Dario Franchitti taking the checkered flag. I was routing for Will Power, who finished third right behind Ryan Briscoe.

Tamika Catchings and Marlin Jackson are two athletes Indiana should be proud of.
Catch is not only one of the best players in the WNBA but she’s also one of the kindest people you’d ever meet. She came in on the 4th of July, not to talk about basketball, but to talk about her foundation Catch the Stars.
She’s held a fundraiser after Sunday’s game and still needs your help! Go to her website to help out catchin24.com. She spends countless hours on the court perfecting her game but any free time she has, she gives back to the community.
Marlin Jackson from the Colts is just as involved. During the season I do a segment called Colts in the Community and most of the press releases we get are Marlin’s events.
He is ALWAYS doing things to help kids — and it’s not just his name, it’s him. Marlin is truly involved with his foundation and wants to make a difference. He just recently held a football game for underpriviledged kids. It was free and he spent all day there
Tamika and Marlin are role models and I’m proud to call both of them friends.

I spent a wonderful afternoon down in Bloomington for the boys high school track and field. It was a lot of fun. It’s such a great event. You get running, jumping, shot putting, pole vaulting…a good mixture of events.
Ben Davis won the team event for the second straight year with Matt Terrell leading the way. Congrats to BD and to all the competitors.
Made me want to bust out the track shoes … or not.

Wow … wasn’t it just April? Where did the month of May go? Okay, I know we still have a couple of more days of May but in Indianapolis, the month ends when the Indy 500 ends.
What a great a May it was. I couldn’t be happier for Helio Castroneves. He is one of the nicest people I know and I love it that he ALWAYS has a smile on his face
I wouldn’t have been disappointed if Tony Kanaan won and I was so sad he crashed out… next year Tony!
And I have to give a shout out to my new friend from New Zealand, Tim Wilson! He was there covering the race for the first time … Nice job Tim, your story on the basketball game was fantastic! Next year we’ll get you to understand IndyCar

I know I shouldn’t have favorites, I should remain unbiased, but Sarah Fisher Racing is pretty high on my list. If you have never met Sarah, you should.
But don’t worry, she’s been making the rounds on national TV, so you can see her personality on display. Monday night she was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (watch her interview) and on Friday, she’s on The Price is Right.
Her garage is always open and you are always greeted with a smile. She’s a great person, a great driver and a great owner. That’s some seriously positive girl power!

Another May is here and I’m pretty excited. Yes, I’ll admit it I jump on the band wagon during this month (I really don’t follow racing as much as a I do in May). This month should be fun - so many capable drivers have a chance to win. I’m going with Tony Kannan. I really hope he grabs the checkered flag, he so deserves and is such a nice guy.

It’s no secret that Bill Polian is a master of the draft and it seems like he might have mastered it again. OK, I know Donald Brown (the Colts first round pick, running back from UConn) hasn’t played one second for the Colts.
But after meeting him and his family he’s a class act. He’s a very humble young man who is living out a childhood dream.
And not only has he put up numbers on the field he also gives back to the community. So it looks to me he’s a perfect fit the Indianapolis Colts.

I guess the saying is correct. Time really does fly when you are having fun. I can’t believe basketball season is over and the month of May is just around the corner.
I know the Pacers missed the postseason for the third-straight year BUT there is plenty of reasons to be optimistic. Danny Granger went from good to great, Troy Murphy made history, and rookies Brandon Rush and Roy Hibbert came on strong and look to get better and better.
So don’t blink because before you know it, football and basketball season will be starting. But first, there’s the Indy 500!

This past week I’ve traveled this great state to interview some pretty amazing athletes. I logged (along with my photographers Joe and Marcos) a lot of miles, didn’t have a day off, and worked long hours BUT it was totally worth it(okay, I did complain, probably more than I should have).
There were four athletes and each had their own amazing, story of overcoming and persevering. I am humbled by their stories and feel there is no way I can do them justice. It is these stories that made me want to be a sports reporter.
These athletes are winners of the Dr. Thomas Brady Comeback Award (Methodist Sports Medicine hands them out). The event is this Tuesday night and you can catch the stories on our website.

I love to run. I try to run at least five miles a day (doesn’t always happen that’s why I used the word TRY). When I run, I need my iPod, which means I usually enter work singing the last song I heard. One of my favorites, “I’m bringing sexy back.”
This recently sparked a discussion with my lovely producer, an intern, and a photographer (I need to keep their names a secret to protect their idenities).
I have a couple of different playlists I run to. The first ’song’ is ALWAYS PTI’s latest podcast, I love Michael Wilbon and Tony Konheiser. After that the songs range from Justin Timberlake, Pussycat Dolls, Pink, Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, etc.
My producer calls the songs ‘hook heavy’ and ‘chanting’. I don’t care, when I’m at mile 4 or 5 I need a song with a good beat, for example, “All the single ladies” (Yes, I have been known to sing while running).
Lexi (our intern) agrees with me (she has great taste). Mike (producer) and Joe (photographer) just don’t get it! What you think? What do you have in your iPod?
Ok, I really didn’t need to protect their identities! They needed to be called out.
Happy running and it’s ok to bring sexy back.
