Air Force One Lands

May 17th, 2009 at 6:25 pm by Jennifer McGilvray under Special Events

The Air Force One landing went smoothly.  It landed about 5:40, a half hour later than originally scheduled.

Secret Service Agents lined the tarmac and sharp shooters waited on the roof of the airport.  About 25 people were allowed to watch the President’s arrival behind barricades.  No one from the group would comment on how they were invited to Obama’s arrival.

President Obama quickly walked down the stairs to a waiting vehicle.  No one from Indianapolis was here to greet him.

The President is supposed to depart Indianapolis at 7:20.

Snow Day at IU

January 28th, 2009 at 2:34 pm by Jennifer McGilvray under Breaking News

Indiana University cancelled class for the first time since 1978 and students on campus made sure to make the most of this rare moment.  As an IU grad, we never even had a half day of classes cancelled, but it would have been nice.

My photographer John LeSage and I drove around on campus to see what the kids were up to.  Many decided to bundle up and try sledding down the hills near the dorms or on Dunn Meadow.  Others weren’t very bundled up and tried it anyways.  We even saw one student walking around in shorts.

Some students tried to shovel their cars out of the mounds of snow buried from the passing snow plows.  John says students should at least shovel out the snow today before it turns to ice tomorrow.

The drive to Bloomington was fairly easy.  INDOT had a least one lane clear for the entire trip on State Road 37.
