On the south side, the steady snowfall we’ve been seeing for the past several hours is turning into sleet. This will only make the drive home worse for evening commuters.
INDOT has 60 salt trucks out monitoring state roads. I’ve seen several trucks plowing I-65 over the past few hours, but there is still plenty of snow on the roads.
No big problems on i-65 near Southport Road. There were a few slide-offs earlier in the afternoon, but as we creep to the peak of the evening rush, traffic is moving smoothly.
The evening commute will be slow going. On interstate 65, traffic is starting to become more congested. Most drivers are going about 30 to 40 mph, which is exactly what police recommend in these slick conditions.
An accident in the northbound lanes of I-65 at Southport is causing delays. A wrecker is currently removing the car, which appears to have slid off the road. There is heavy, slow-moving traffic in both the north and southbound lanes of I-65 due to the slick and snowy road conditions.
Traffic on 65 south is moving slow. Most cars are going about 30 mph. The interstate and side streets are very slick. There are salt trucks on the roads, but drivers are having trouble keeping up with the accumulating snow.
