And it’s May! Temperatures have dropped as brisk north and northwest winds move drier air into Indiana. Temperatures have already dropped into the 40s and 50s and tonight upper 30s to low 40s are expected.  The record low for Friday morning is 37 degrees.

Strong northwest winds have been gusting over 20 mph this evening. Winds will relax a bit, but should remain between 10-15 mph overnight, keeping the surge of cooler air moving in. Though it will be a chilly start to Friday, plenty of sunshine is expected to bring the temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Overview: Showers are coming to an end in central Indiana. Clouds will be decreasing through the overnight hours but will lead to chilly temperatures for early Friday morning. The weather will turn beautiful in time for the Indy 500 festivities but may contend with some showers come race day. Beyond that the heat is on once again.

Tonight: Clouds diminish to mostly clear skies and the cold returns. Low: 42

Friday: Sunny and beautiful but unseasonably cool. High 68

Saturday: Partly cloudy skies for the Indy 500 Parade. It will be chilly starting out at 47 but recovers up to 70 by the afternoon.

Extended Outlook: Showers are in the forecast for race day at the Indy 500 but the race should be able to take place. 72 will be the high. Scattered t-storms return Monday as a warm front lifts through Indiana allowing the summer heat to return with highs approaching 90.

A few scattered showers are moving through central Indiana, but they will come to an end as we head into the evening and overnight hours.

Temperatures are cool in the low 60′s and will continue to fall later this evening into the 40′s after midnight.

After the rain moves through cooler temps arrive…especially tonight!  Right now, temps are in the lower 60s.  This afternoon our highs reach the mid to upper 60s.  Tonight’s lows fall to the lower 40s.  These are near-record lows.  The record low for Indianapolis is 37º set in 1925.

Sunshine pours over central Indiana for Carb Day on Friday.  Temperatures will be a little on the cool side in the upper 60s and lower 70s.  The 500 Festival Parade on Saturday is a little warmer with lows in the lower 70s and partly cloudy skies.  Race Day is still a tricky forecast.  There is a shot for rain late Saturday night, then another chance for late Sunday afternoon.  It is still too early to pinpoint exact times, but we should get the race in.  Memorial Day Monday, scattered showers and storms.  High temps both Sunday and Monday in the low to mid 70s.  A warm up kicks in again for the following week with highs nearing 90º by the end of next week.

Tonight:
Temperatures will drop into the upper 50s to low 60s with more showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Tomorrow:
Much cooler. Highs in the mid 60s. Scattered showers and storms will continue from late morning through the afternoon. By evening clouds will remain and gradual clearing will ensue. Much cooler overnight low temperatures will also move in.

Friday:
Clear skies return! Lots of sunshine is expected, but strong northwest winds will keep temperatures cool. Highs in the upper 60s with lows in the upper 40s.

Saturday:
Temperatures will modify slightly with all the sunshine we’re expecting. Highs near 70 with mostly sunny skies. A few scattered clouds will develop during the afternoon. Lows in the low 50s.

RACE DAY!
While there’s an isolated shower chance in the forecast for early in the day, overall, high pressure should remain in control for the first half of the day. This means most clear skies though temperatures will start cool. Morning temperatures will begin in the low to mid 50s, but temperatures will warm into the low 70s by the afternoon. A weak system will move in from the northwest and bring a chance for scattered showers during the afternoon and evening.

Next week:
After a few scattered showers to start the week, partly cloudy skies will dominate next week’s forecast. Temperatures will return to the 80s with mild lows in the 60s.

The scattered showers that moved through the metropolitan area have formed a line near Shelbyville. The line is also producing gusty winds and some lightning.

The line extends from Muncie to New Castle and down through Shelbyville. Expect gusty winds with heavy downpours as the showers roll through.

More scattered showers are redeveloping over central Indiana, including the Indianapolis Metropolitan area. The showers are producing very little lightning, but overall expect brief downpours before the showers move on. Gusty winds may also accompany some of the heaviest rain.

Heavy downpours associated with scattered showers and storms are moving through central Indiana. Some of the showers may be producing gusty winds and occasional lightning/thunder. The storms are moving from east to west and moving through quickly, so any rain will last briefly before moving on.

Temperatures have been cooler this afternoon, but many locations remain in the upper 60s to low 70s. Scattered showers and storms will continue into the evening and overnight.

There is a slight chance that some of the storms could produce strong winds or hail, though the threat remains small.
