Milder Weather Ahead Today

February 17th, 2009 at 5:23 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

TODAY: Warmer southerly winds will arrive into the state today, thanks to a storm system moving our direction out of the Plains states.  This should highs back to above normal values.  Rain should hold off until tonight, so both commutes should be dry.

TONIGHT: Scattered showers will move in with a warm front tonight.  Air should stay warm enough to keep it as rain…northern Indiana could see a brief wintry mix before changing to rain.

WEDNESDAY: We may not see all day rain, but scattered rain, and maybe even a thunderstorm or 2 could occur at any time.  Expect one more mild day with highs in the mid 40’s.

THURSDAY: Enter the Arctic Blast!  A big shot of colder air arrives and we will see some snow showers off and on.  Highs will only hit the low 20’s in most places!

Mild Start to Sunday…Cooler This Afternoon

February 1st, 2009 at 6:54 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

TODAY: Overnight temperatures were in the upper 30’s to lower 40’s.  The numbers have cooled off a bit, but mild air will still remain for most of the morning.  Slightly cooler air will drop temperatures back into state later today.  As the cold front slides through, we may see a sprinkle or 2, but I think most places should stay dry.

MONDAY: An upper-level storm system will develop on top of us .  This will usher in another round of arctic air.  What is a little more uncertain is what will happen in the snow department.  As the system gets stronger, more snow will develop.  It still looks like most of the snow will take place in the mid-Atlantic states, but we could squeeze out some minor accumulations here.  Stay tuned.

TUESDAY: Snow showers will continue, and the core of the brief arctic blast will arrive.  Again accumulation is uncertain.

Mid-Morning Update

January 31st, 2009 at 9:46 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

Temperatures are still chilly at this hour, with some places south of Indy still below zero.  Wind Chill values are still below zero in many places.  However, milder air isn’t too far behind.  Temperatures in central Illinois are already in the low 20’s, and we should see those by noon or early afternoon.

Chilly Again…Flurries / Snow Showers Today

January 25th, 2009 at 6:23 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

TODAY: A weak disturbance riding along the jet stream will roll into the state later this morning.  The result will be flurries and snow showers from time to time through the afternoon.  There are signs that the system will weaken as it moves into the state, but that will remain to be seen.  Temperatures will struggle to hit 20.

MONDAY: Should be a quiet day for the most part…clouds and chilly temperatures will linger.  Highs will hit the low to mid 20’s.  Flurries will arrive again, but it shouldn’t happen until late evening.

TUESDAY: This is where the weather will get interesting.  Developing storm system from the southwest will move towards the state.  Pacific moisture (and eventually Gulf moisture) will overrun the system and spread into the Midwest.  How far north the system will go remains to be seen, but right now, it looks like the better chances for snow will be in central and southern Indiana, but again that can change.  Winter Storm Watches have already been posted along the Ohio River.

Mid-Morning Weather Update

January 24th, 2009 at 9:47 am by Ken Brewer under Uncategorized, Weather

Temperatures have stabilized a bit in the low to mid teens this morning.  It will be a battle between sunshine and bitter cold air.  The result should be a slow climb back into the upper teens to lower 20’s.  If you are heading out this afternoon or evening, it should be dry but with winds about 10-15 miles per hour, wind chill values will stay in the single digits.

Chilly Monday, More Flurries?

January 19th, 2009 at 4:55 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

TODAY: A weak upper-level disturbance is still in the vicinity, so we will keep chances of flurries or snow showers in for today.  Once again, little or no accumulation is expected.  Highs should hit the low to mid 20’s.

TONIGHT: Cold air will linger, and lows again will dip into the lower teens and perhaps single digits in spots.  Flurries could linger overnight.

TUESDAY: After a few morning flurries, the pattern should stabilize a bit, but chilly air will linger for one more day.  Highs will hit the mid 20’s in most places.

WEDNESDAY AND BEYOND: The upper level pattern will finally start to change.  The flow that has allowed for Canadian air to flow into the eastern U.S. will flatten out, and shut off the arctic express.  The result will be slightly milder air on Wednesday, then a nice warm-up for the end of the week.
