Weekend Weather Discussion

TODAY: Warm air continues to surge into most of the state with warm southerly winds.  A stationary front in northern Indiana will be the focal point of heavy rain and a few storms.  Some flooding is possible there.  For us, other than a renegade storm, it should be dry most of the time, with highs in the low 70’s.  There is a slight risk of severe storms in extreme NW parts of the viewing area, but most of the severe weather should stay away today.

TONIGHT: The stationary front will sag a bit to the south overnight.  The heavier rain and storms will drift south with it into the viewing area.  Expect pockets of heavy rain, and perhaps a few strong storms from time to time.  I think heavier rain will be the big story overnight.

SUNDAY: A wave of low pressure will approach the state, which will help lift the stalled out front back north as a warm front.  More instability will enter the state during the day, especially if we see some sunshine.  The threat for severe weather will be higher as we can see some supercell storms, and a squall line develop in advance of a cold front.  Watch for the potential for damaging wind, large hail, and maybe an isolated tornado.  Heavy rain may also contribute to flooding. Stay tuned to WISH-TV, MyIndy-TV, and LWS for updates as needed.
