The 9:00am observations have shown that visibility is slowly improving across the area. Columbus has improved from 1/8 of a mile to 1 mile. Fog won’t completely go away for another hour or so.

Not much change at the observation sites…worst one is still at Columbus. Keep in mind, fog in cases like these can be high local. This is just a snapshot of the area, there may be pockets of near-zero visibility scattered across the area, so be careful if you are out and about for the next hour or so.
Fog is really thick around Columbus where visibility is getting closer to zero. While the NWS office has good visibility, patches of fog are around the metro area. Here is a map of the latest numbers (10 miles is normal). Chopper 8 has been showing the pockets on MyIndy-TV
Patchy Fog still dots the area. The airport in Indianapolis reports 9 mile visibility, but other locations are 1 mile or less. Here is a map of the latest numbers. (10 mile visibility is considered “clear”.
Most of the metro area is ok in the visibility department, but other areas aren’t fairing as well. Near Kokomo, visibility is at 0.00 miles! Here is a map of visibility keep in mind 10 miles is considered “clear”.
The fog has shifted around and visibility has slightly improved in some locations. Here are the latest numbers, and you can compare the image from Geist to the post right before this one.
Some of the visibility has gotten worse Northeast of Indianapolis. Muncie’s observation site is showing zero visibility, and fog is moving into the Geist area as well.
We have been getting reports from Anderson, and in Henry County as well as other areas northeast of Indianapolis. The observation site in Muncie is at a quarter of a mile visibility. Be careful if you will be NE or East of the city.
Visibility is reduced to about 3/4 mile in Bloomington, and about 2.5 miles in other locations. Be careful over the next hour or so, if you are driving south of Indy.
Visibility has improved a bit in some places, but pockets of dense fog remain, so watch for that as you head out. Here is a map of the latest observations.
