One More Warm Day

April 27th, 2009 at 4:42 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

TODAY: A cold front will creep towards the state today, and eventually bring us rain and storms.  It still looks like the majority of the rain will arrive tonight as opposed to today, but there may be some scattered storms this afternoon, so take the umbrella just in case.  Highs should top out in the low 80’s.

WIND ADVISORY WEST TODAY: Winds will increase (hard to imagine, right?) through the day, and a Wind Advisory has been issued for counties west of Indianapolis for most of the day.

SEVERE STORMS? The Storm Prediction Center has put a slight risk of severe storms mainly to the west of Indiana, but a few places like Terre Haute may see some strong storms this evening.

TUESDAY: Rain and a few storms will linger for most of the day…perhaps tapering off late in the day.  Highs will be cooler in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.

Mid-Morning Weather Update

April 26th, 2009 at 9:58 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

A few light renegade sprinkles have entered around Terre Haute, and are moving NE.  Most places will see dry weather through the afternoon.

Near-Record Heat Again Today!

April 26th, 2009 at 6:20 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

THIS MORNING: If you are heading out this morning, there may be a few sprinkles in northern parts of the viewing area (north of Lafayette and Kokomo).  Otherwise, it will be a nice morning.

morning_planner4

REST OF TODAY: The storm system will lift north and take rain chances away with it.  This will clear the way for near-record heat again as highs will hit the mid 80’s in most places.  The record for today is 87 (1915).

micro_153 micro_269 daypart14

MONDAY: Most of the day should be dry, as the cold front will slow down and wait for another wave of low pressure to develop and kick the system through.  Rain should arrive by evening, and we could see a few storms.  Highs should hit the low to mid 80’s.

Mid-Morning Update

April 25th, 2009 at 9:10 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

Clusters of storms in Illinois are moving NE and may clip NW parts of the viewing area (north of Lafayette, and Kokomo).  Otherwise, warm summer weather should greet you for the rest of the day.  If we see any more isolated storms, they should stay on the northern edge of the viewing area, so outdoor activities should be great.  Off to Earth Day, see you tomorrow.

Warm Weather Continues, Dry Today?

April 25th, 2009 at 6:24 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

THIS MORNING: A very warm start to the day, as temperatures are in the mid to upper 60’s and lower 70’s.  If you are heading out this morning, expect the mild and dry weather to continue.

morning_planner3

REST OF TODAY: A cold front to our north is trying to slide into the state, but a strong ridge of high pressure in the SE U.S. will help keep the system away.  However, it will be a close call with a few clusters of rain and storms, as they will slide to our north.  We may get clipped by a stray storm or two, but do not cancel outdoor plans, most places will stay dry.  Highs should hit the low to mid 80’s.

micro_151 micro_267 daypart13

Earth Day is downtown at the American Legion Mall from 11am – 4pm.  I will be there from 11-12, and Steve Bray will be there this afternoon.  Again there is an ever so slight chance of a stray storm, but it should be dry for the most part.  There is a slight risk of severe storms out of the viewing area in NW Indiana.

earth_day skywarn15

SUNDAY: The front will lift back to the north as a warm front, so it should be dry and warm again, with highs in the low to mid 80’s.

Warmer Weather On The Way!

April 22nd, 2009 at 4:52 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

TODAY: The cold-core upper-level low pressure system will finally loosen its grip across the region and slide to the east.  This will allow for some milder air to return, though we will still be a touch below normal for this time of year.  One more weak trough will slide through as the system exits, so we will keep a chance of a few stray showers in, but overall, it should be drier than yesterday.

futurecast_13 futurecast_23 daypart12

TONIGHT: A milder, quiet night with lows in the lower 40’s and maybe a few upper 30’s.

adi_low_tonight29

THURSDAY: Warmer air will surge into the state, and bump highs into the 70’s, with plenty of sunshine.

FRIDAY: Even nicer, and a taste of summer!  Highs should hit the low 80’s!

Mid-Afternoon Weather Update

April 21st, 2009 at 1:12 pm by Ken Brewer under Weather

Same story as yesterday…only a bit colder.  Don’t be surprised to see a few snow showers mixed in with rain and perhaps some small hail later today.

Chilly Showers Again Today

April 21st, 2009 at 4:38 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

TODAY: A cold core upper-level low pressure system churns over the Great Lakes.  This continues to de-stabilize our atmosphere, especially as the day goes on.  Expect pockets of rain again today, and like yesterday, watch for some small hail.  The hail in this case does not come from severe storms, but from the fact that the air is so cool that a lot of moisture forms and falls as ice through most of the atmosphere.  Highs today will only hit the upper 40’s.

micro_144 micro_255 daypart11

TONIGHT: A few spotty showers are possible as the upper-low lingers, otherwise, it will be a bit chilly.  Lows should hit the mid 30’s.

adi_low_tonight26

WEDNESDAY: Overall a nicer day, but we may see a stray shower or two for one last day.  The cold core will loosen its grip just a bit, so temperatures will be a bit milder, and highs will get a bit warmer and reach the mid to upper 50’s.

micro_353 micro_443 highs_tomorrow4

LATE-WEEK: Much warmer air will build in as the jet stream will lift north, and highs will get well above normal from Thursday through the weekend.

Midday Weather Update

April 20th, 2009 at 12:14 pm by Ken Brewer under Weather

We have a lull in most of the rain right now, but don’t be fooled…a few showers and storms will pop-up later this afternoon.  Temperatures are chilly and staying in the 40’s,  but they may recover into the mid 50’s by later today depending on location.

Soggy Weather Continues

April 20th, 2009 at 5:16 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

TODAY: An upper-level low pressure system will continue to churn out rain showers off and on throughout the day.  With these upper-level lows, cold pools of air will keep temperatures below normal, but they will also trigger pockets of rain, and possibly a stray thunderstorm.

micro_142 micro_252 daypart10

TONIGHT: Not much will change tonight, scattered rain will linger and lows will be a bit colder.  Expect lows in the low 40’s.

adi_low_tonight22

TUESDAY: One more soggy day as a chilly rain will fall from time to time.  Highs will only hit the upper 40’s.
