We are allowing NO traffic southbound I-69 from the 45 mile-marker (S.R. 28), 41 mile-marker (S.R. 332) and 34 mile-marker (S.R. 32/67) in Delaware County due to multiple vehicle crashes in Madison and Hamilton Counties (Indiana State Police Pendleton District). Northbound traffic from these locations is NOT affected.

Motorists should find an alternate route due to heavy snow and ice and low visibility on I-70 through Henry County. Motorists may exit at the Knightstown SR 109 exit and go south to US 40 or exit at SR 3 at the 123 mile marker and go south to US 40. The Semi will have to be removed to reopen I-70 east bound. I will send out another bulletin as soon as the roadway is reopened.

According to Ron Lipps of the Fishers Fire Department, at least 15 vehicles were involved in the accident, including a Fishers Fire Truck. Several people had to be extracted from their vehicles. It is not yet known how many more were injured.

• I-65, U.S. 50 and State Highways and Secondary roads (county roads) are all snow covered and slick. Visibility has become an issue for short periods of time.
• Troopers have been busy most of the morning investigating crashes and slide-offs up and down I-65 from the 80 mile marker in Bartholomew County to the 36 mile marker in Jackson County. Troopers are assisting wreckers and motorist in removing their vehicles that have become stuck in the median or on embankments. Motorists are cautioned that there may be lane restrictions at various locations, and should be prepared for sudden speed reductions or stops. As soon as one car is getting pulled out troopers are being sent to another location to investigate another vehicle off the road.

• I-65 from 1 to 16 mile marker, both lanes have been cleared of snow but the road is still wet and slick in some spots.
• I-65 from 16 to 36 mile marker, right lane wet and slushy, left lane is snow covered and slick.
• I-64 in Floyd County, both lanes are wet and slushy with slick spots.
• I-64 in Harrison County, right lane wet and slushy, left lane is snow covered and slick.
• State and U.S. Highways in Clark and Floyd Counties are wet with a few slick spots.
• State and U.S. Highways in Harrison, Scott, and Washington Counties are snow covered with slick spots.
• Secondary roads, (county roads), in Clark and Floyd Counties are mostly wet and slushy with some roads in the northern parts of the counties still snow covered   with slick spots.
• Secondary roads, (county roads), in Harrison, Scott, and Washington Counties are snow covered with slick spots.

Conditions on the roadways have improved dramatically over the last two hours with road closures coming only due to fallen trees.

Even though the snow has quit falling, people are encouraged to stay off the roadways unless it is an emergency.  City, state and county highway crews will need time to get the roadways clear.  The fewer vehicles that are on the roadways, the quicker they can get that accomplished.

Interstates throughout the metropolitan area have greatly improved; however, some lanes are still snow covered with icy patches.

State and U.S. highways are experiencing slow moving traffic.  We expect the current road conditions to continue and remain consistent throughout the evening commute.

• I-65 from the 36 to the 58 mile marker, both lanes are snow/slush covered and slick. We continue to respond to vehicles sliding off, due to unsafe speeds.
• I-65 from the 58 to the 80 mile marker, the right lane is wet, the left lane is snow/slush covered.
• State and U.S. highways are still snow/slush covered and slick.
• Secondary roads (county roads) are snow covered and slick, with deep snow in places.

Troopers most recently assisted with semis stuck in the median at the 36, 41 and 52 mile marker. Both lanes were recently re-opened at the 58 mile marker southbound, following the clearing of a jack-knifed semi. The interstate was also recently re-opened southbound at the 38 mile marker, after the removal of a semi. Motorists should be prepared for sudden speed reductions or stops.

Indiana State Troopers from the Indianapolis State Police Post were kept busy for the last twenty-four hours responding to numerous crashes and calls for service in the district.  The majority of the crashes were property damage crashes. An accumulation of snow caused roadways, bridges, under passes, exit and entrance ramps to freeze; creating slick road conditions for motorists.  Many secondary roads were nearly impassable.

The Indianapolis District worked a total of 103 property damage crashes, 9 personal injury crashes, 116 slide offs and responded to 47 motorists assists since yesterday at 1 p.m.  Primary roadways in the district remain mostly snow covered with slush and slick spots.  Currently all roads are open and drivers are reminded to drive with caution.  The Indianapolis State Police District includes Marion, Johnson, Shelby and Boone counties.

Troopers assigned to the Indianapolis State Police District have worked a total of 237 (57 of those are from 6A-10A today) crashes/slide offs since the second wave of snow began to yesterday afternoon. No one has been injured in any of the crashes thus far.
