Good News, Bad News…
Good News is that the rain is slowly breaking up as the atmosphere is drying out. The Bad News is that it will still take awhile to completely dry out, so spotty rain and storms will linger for at least a few more hours. Again, take the umbrella with you.

Things have gotten a bit more complicated. The surface front has slowed down a bit and is hung up around Lafayette, and the water content in the atmosphere remains high. So as long as the front lingers, rain chances will hold on. The really dry air is still around Chicago and is slow to drop south, so we will keep some rain chances in this evening, as the rain will slowly dry up this evening and overnight. Rainfall totals have piled up along a narrow path with some places now over 1″ of rain since midnight.

The last line of storms is pushing through the area. Crawfordsville and surrounding areas are seeing the brunt of this last round, and it is moving into the metro area. Watch for locally heavy downpours, and lot of lightning. Rainfall totals have been 1″ or less in most places, with locally higher totals. Upon further review, the front may still be a bit farther the north of the last line of storms. Dewpoints are still in the 70’s in Lafayette.

More storms are racing through the state , but the good news is that once the line that is just south of Lafayette passes, that should be pretty much the end of storms for today. Clearing will take place from NW to SE through the afternoon, and evening. Metro area evening plans may be dry. Down to the south, rain may not clear until later tonight.

Cold front continues to drop down from the north. There is still a ton of moisture for this system to work with, so the rain and storms should fill in a bit through the afternoon. Hopefully, the timing looks like it may clear the metro area by evening.

I think we can see the light at the end of the tunnel here with the rain. I have drawn on VIPIR where the cold front appears to be. We will continue to see some training of rain and storms until then, but by late afternoon, most of the metro area should be clear of most of the rain.

Lines of rain and storms continue to redevelop over the metro area. We may get a break in the next hour or so in places, but there will be several more lines of rain and storms that will form. The cold front is still in northern Indiana, and will pass through late today.
Storms have stayed below severe limits, and they tend to weaken as they get south of the metro area.

We have a lull in most of the rain right now, but don’t be fooled…a few showers and storms will pop-up later this afternoon. Temperatures are chilly and staying in the 40’s, but they may recover into the mid 50’s by later today depending on location.

Rain continues to spin around an upper-level low pressure system. No severe weather is expected, but we could see some moderate rain from time to time this morning. Activity should become more spotty after the upper-low passes.

The fog situation is improving across the area. Here are the latest visibility numbers.

Rain is becoming spotty in areas south of I-70 and the steady rain is moving away. This will allow for some sunshine to pop-out and warmer temperatures to return. This will add some instability and slowly increase the severe weather threat from I-70 south.
I think the higher chances of severe weather will occur around Bloomington, Columbus, Seymour, and areas to the south, but we will have to monitor the situation carefully this afternoon.
