ISP Update: Peru District

January 28th, 2009 at 8:41 am by Jason Crundwell under Breaking News

The ISP in Peru reports that they are still getting snow in the Lafayette area.

Current road conditions within the Lafayette District of the Indiana State Police, which includes White, Carroll, Benton, Warren, Fountain, Montgomery, Clinton, and Tippecanoe Counties are as follows:

  • Interstates within the District are snow covered, slick, and hazardous.
  • State and U.S. highways are snow covered and slick.
  • Secondary roads (county roads) are snow/slush covered and slick.
  • Road surfaces are constantly changing as snow continues to fall. Drifts are frequent and constantly changing.

With the forecast of some light additional snow fall for this morning, we expect the road conditions in and around the Indianapolis Metro area and the Lafayette area to remain treacherous. Commuters should expect slick/icy roads with long delays for the morning commute.
Encourage people to only travel if it necessary.

Snow to Sleet

January 27th, 2009 at 5:48 pm by Liza Danver under Breaking News

On the south side, the steady snowfall we’ve been seeing for the past several hours is turning into sleet.   This will only make the drive home worse for evening commuters.

INDOT has 60 salt trucks out monitoring state roads.  I’ve seen several trucks plowing I-65 over the past few hours, but there is still plenty of snow on the roads.

No big problems on i-65 near Southport Road.  There were a few slide-offs earlier in the afternoon, but as we creep to the peak of the evening rush, traffic is moving smoothly.

Traffic Blog – Plainfield

January 27th, 2009 at 5:10 pm by Steve Bray under Breaking News

Plainfield just North of I-70 along 267…

Snow is still adding up and and traffic is slowing down. Snow covering roadway here on 267. Take it very slow if you are going out and it’s just going to get worse.

Typically in storm tracks like this, where icing sets up the heaviest snow band is just north/west…looks like that will be the case this time around.

Thanks to Speedway gas station out here for access to parking lot and even more amenities.
