Milder Weather Arrives Today

March 4th, 2009 at 4:59 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

Temperatures have stayed a touch below expected over the past several days as cold air has lingered, but that should change today.

TODAY: Warmer air has already arrived.  Overnight lows in the mid to upper 20’s are replacing the low teens of the past several days.  Some clouds are here with the jet stream as it lifts to the north.   By this afternoon, milder air and more sunshine should arrive.  Most places should hit the mid to upper 40’s this afternoon.

TONIGHT: The warming trend will continue, and lows will only drop down into the mid 30’s.

THURSDAY: As Gulf moisture moves into the state, we could see a stray shower or 2, but the mild weather will still be the big story.  Highs will hit the mid to upper 50’s.

FRIDAY: 60 degrees!!!!! Warmer air will surge into the state.  But we could see a few spotty showers as well.

Rapid Warm-Up Today

January 31st, 2009 at 5:58 am by Ken Brewer under Weather

TODAY: It may be hard to believe after such a frigid start, but temperatures this afternoon should approach the freezing mark this afternoon!   A brief bubble of high pressure in the upper-levels of the atmosphere will provide the afternoon warmth.  Highs will be around 32 for most locations, however, a strong SW wind of 15-20 mph will dampen the effect of the warm-up.  Expect partly cloudy skies today.

SUNDAY: Did I mention the warm-up was brief?  A cold front will approach the state quickly tomoorw and should pass through during the afternoon.  The result will be warm temperatures early, then temperatures will slowly fall in the afternoon.  There is an outside chance of sprinkles or flurries, but the system should lack moisture, so I think we should stay dry.  Highs should hit the upper 30’s around noon.

Milder Weather to Start Today

THIS MORNING: Milder weather will move in, but not in time for the bus stop this morning!  Temperatures in the single digits, with some wind chill values below zero.

REST OF TODAY: Milder Pacific air will gradually work into the state.  The result today will be temperatures in the lower 30’s in most places, perhaps some upper 20’s in others.

TONIGHT: You will find signs of milder air overnight, lows will not be nearly as chilly as the past several nights.

THURSDAY: The warm-up continues.  Highs should reach the low to mid 40’s.

FRIDAY: One more mild day before another shot of cold air arrives late Friday night.
